Beauty Remembers Us

I don’t know about you, but for me, it’s becoming almost unbearable to live with the ugliness that has taken hold on behavior and discourse in this nation.  But, as I watch the vegetables ripen in my garden and the birds appear at my feeder, I am reminded that there is so much beauty in the world as well.  We just have to remember to see it.  It is a reverence for beauty that may be able to lead us back to our best selves.  As the singer Phil Ochs once said, “In such ugly times, beauty is the only true protest.”
