April promises to be a month of abundance. Whether you are looking for community, social action, or spiritual renewal, this month has something for you.

As a Unitarian Universalist congregation historically rooted in Christianity, we continue our centuries long celebration of Easter Sunday. This year Easter falls between the 250th Anniversary of the start of the American Revolution and the 129th running of the Boston Marathon. If you are in the city for either (or both) events, please join us on Easter at 11:00 a.m. for joyous music and sermon “Of Liberty and Love” by the Rev. Dr. Stephanie May.  We will also gather on the Charles River at sunrise for a casual time of welcoming the light in shared readings on renewal and hope. illustration of two profile heads with a globe on their head and flowers around theire head

In another special Sunday service on April 13, we host a Climate Justice Revival. Starting with a Sunday service on the theme of environmental justice, there will also be a workshop on how to engage in the critical work of fostering a sustainable planet for us all. To learn more about the social justice efforts of First Church, the Social Justice Community meets on the 1st Sunday of the month.

Each Sunday, the professional singers of the First Church Boston Choral Ensemble bring extraordinary music to our worship services. On Saturday, April 26, 7:00 pm, the Choral A purple crocus with black background Faure RequiemEnsemble joins with the Society Players Chamber Orchestra to present Fauré’s Requiem.  Enjoy an evening of beautiful music as the soothing melodies of Fauré’s masterpiece transports you to a place of serenity and reflection.

Throughout the month, we will also be exploring the monthly theme of “Love” as part of our year-long reimagining of our 1630 Covenant. From the Sunday Services to a small group discussion on Monday, April 6, 7:00 pm, we ask what the historic call to gather “in mutual love and respect” could mean for us today?

And, just as the month ends, the annual Minns Lectures kick-off followed on Saturday, May 3, 5:00pm with a Spring FUNdraiser. Mark your calendars now to join in.
