Starting June 16 through September 1, Summer services at First Church Boston are held upstairs in the air-conditioned Hale Chapel, every Sunday in-person at 11:00 am and broadcast on YouTube.

Led by a guest minister or a member of First Church Boston, each service includes piano music and a soloist as well as readings, a sermon, hymns, and a time to share our joys and concerns. A simple coffee and lemonade hour follows outside on the porch.

We hope you can join us!

Colorful stained glass window in a white room with lectern and seatsHale Chapel is named in honor of Edward Everett Hale (1822–1909), a Unitarian minister, a historian, and an author, best known for his short story “The Man Without a Country,” published in the Atlantic Monthly to strengthen support of the Union during the Civil War.  A reformer, he founded the Lend-a Hand Society to help Bostonians in need. His statue can be seen near the Charles Street entrance to the Boston Public Garden.

The brilliant stained glass window was designed by Gyorgy Kepes, Hungarian-born artist and founder of the Center for Advanced Visual Studies (CAVS) at MIT. The abstract design evokes both the double helix of DNA and the UU flaming chalice.
