First Church Boston’s Social Justice Committee gathered in the auditorium after Sunday service on October 1 for food and fellowship and to review our social justice initiatives.
We heard updates on the work of the five community partners who we support and work with: the Massachusetts Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence, the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization, UU Mass Action, UU Urban Ministry, and the Boston chapter of Beyond Plastic.
Ellie Miller is our liaison with the MA Coalition to Prevent Gun Violence and updated us on all that is happening with the Coalition and how we can continue to support them.
Rosemary Kean, co-chair of the Social Justice community at First Church Boston, updated us on the work of the Greater Boston Interfaith Organization (GBIO) and the Housing Justice campaign that we are a part of and support.Margaret Moody spoke about ways we can take action and educate ourselves about the human health consequences of plastic production. One option is supporting the Boston area branch of “Beyond Plastics” in lobbying for local and state-wide legislative changes and environmental justice.
