As some call today for a return to our roots as a Christian nation, we revisit our religious and political story as the founding congregation of Boston. How did First Church minister Charles Chauncey tell this story at the time of the American Revolution to support the cause of independence? After four centuries of entwined religious and political dynamics, what is at stake today for how we tell the story of our origins and our Revolution?
