A season of growth at First Church Boston
Jump into a new season of growth at First Church Boston! As spring returns this month, we also welcome the appearance of new events and the return of others that have been dormant. Whether new to First Church or a long-time member, there is something for everyone from social justice, music, socializing, learning, and worship.
The month begins with a busy day for the Social Justice Community on March 3. Following the service, the Community will meet for their monthly meeting at 12:30 p.m. in the Auditorium. Then, more than a dozen folks will join hundreds more at the GBIO (Greater Boston Interfaith Organization) for a Housing Bill Rally at the Islamic Cultural Center of Boston in Roxbury at 3:00 p.m. To join the rally, please register here.
Our last “Winter Wednesday” of the season will happen Wednesday, March 6, 7:00 p.m. in the Emerson Lounge. On March 6 we invite folks to bring a crafting project as we socialize and create together. Light snacks and adult coloring books available.
On Saturday, March 9, at 6:00 p.m. all are invited to join in a full-filled potluck supper for members and friends of the congregation. Enjoy the time to connect, revel, and renew in a social time of food and games. A longtime favorite of many, we are happy to hold our first post-pandemic potluck!
For those interested in learning more about Unitarian Universalism and First Church Boston, our new Senior Minister, the Rev. Dr. Stephanie May, will be leading a two-part introductory class at 12:30 p.m. on Sundays, March 10 and 17. She will cover core ideas, events, and values that shape Unitarian Universalism generally and First Church Boston in particular.
Also on Sunday March 10 at 3:00 p.m., members of the First Church Boston Music Ensemble will present an afternoon concert called The Poulenc Project. The concert is free and open to the public.
As a spiritual community, we gather for a time of reverence with word, song, and connection each Sunday at 11:00 a.m. Our services this month explore the value of “equity” on March 3, 10, and 17. Guest minister Rev. Mary Margaret Earl of the UU Urban Ministry in Roxbury leads the service on March 24.
On Sunday, March 31, we will hold several Easter Day celebrations including a Sunrise Gathering and a Sunday service on “Resurrecting Hope” followed by an Easter Egg hunt at our main entrance at 12:15 p.m. Free childcare is available at all Sunday Services.
To learn more details about upcoming First Church events and Sunday services, please sign-up for our weekly e-news here. If you wish to chat about the congregation or Unitarian Universalism and your search for a spiritual community, please reach out to Rev. Stephanie to set up a time to talk.
As a sneak peak into April, save the date for two special events. On Wednesday, April 3, 7:00 p.m., we welcome author James Marcus to discuss his new book, Glad to the Brink of Fear: A Portrait of Ralph Waldo Emerson, available March 5 from Princeton University Press.
And on Sunday, April 28, 3:00 p.m. we celebrate the Installation of the Rev. Dr. Stephanie May as the 24th Minister of First Church Boston since 1630.
