Love in February
“Only love is big enough to hold all the pain of this world,” writes Buddhist teacher Sharon Salzberg. In February, our monthly theme explores the transformative power of Love in Sunday services and special events.
We are excited to announce the first “Café Underground”— a pop up, open mic community event that is held on the 3rd Monday of the Month, starting February 16 at 7pm in the Auditorium. What do you love to do? Are you a musician? A poet? Do you enjoy live music? Do you enjoy coffee and interesting conversations? You should come to Cafe Underground!  Free to attend, but please register online if you plan to attend.
On Tuesday, February 24, we welcome local author Virginia Pye to share her new book, Marriage and Other Monuments.

As social justice protests and the removal of Confederate monuments rock Richmond, the marriages of two estranged sisters implode, eventually bringing them closer, while their husbands conspire in a racial reckoning their ancestors would never have dreamed of. Thanks to Trident Books for providing onsite book sales.
Throughout the month, our Sunday services engage the theme of Love. We kick off the theme on Sunday, February 1 in a service that builds on Salzberg’s quote. On Sunday, February 8, we honor Black History Month as we reconsider how First Church Boston engages with our own history in relationship to centuries of racial injustice.
Then, on February 15, we ask what it means to be “in love”—not only with another person, but with the gifts and experiences of life that inspire our passion. On the final Sunday, February 22, Intern Minister, Ebonié Smith-Cooper  explores the loving relationships we have with our pets and how they can transform our lives as well.
