DESCRIPTION:Sermon "A Little Democracy" \n\nIn a special service\, we recog
 nize Boston’s Charter Day and the city’s 394th birthday. Drawing inspi
 ration from the theme of the Partnership of Historic Boston’s fall lectu
 res\, “Tyranny or Liberty? – Political Choices Then and Now\,” the R
 ev. Dr. May will explore the theological underpinnings of the Puritan choi
 ce to gather as a church under a covenant. In what ways does this 1630 cov
 enant reflect a move away from structures of religious tyranny and towards
  new liberties? Did the men and women who signed the covenant understand t
 hemselves to be forming a little democracy? In revisiting the 1630 covenan
 t\, the Rev. Dr. May also kicks off a year-long series of reimagining the 
 covenant through religious questions we may still be asking ourselves toda
 y.  \n\nFor Families:  Childcare for children ages 1-8 will be availabl
 e. Older children are invited to remain in the service or to join the chil
 dcare assistants for stories\, play\, and craft.
