SUMMARY:Art Exhibit Opening: Paintings and Drawings from the Primordial Sou
 p Series
DESCRIPTION:PAINTINGS and DRAWINGS from THE PRIMORDIAL SOUP SERIES\nSolo Ex
hibition by DAVID LLOYD BROWN\n\nOpening Reception: November 14\, 5-9 PM\n
 \nNovember 14\, 2025 – February 28\, 2026\nViewing Hours: Sundays 10 AM-
1 PM and by appointment  \n\nThe First Church Boston is pleased to prese
nt Paintings and Drawings from the Primordial Soup Series\, a one-person e
xhibition by artist David Lloyd Brown. Brown's paintings explore the inter
play of order and change through a unique process of creating and combinin
g template shapes. These abstract compositions\, rooted in diverse cultura
l influences\, create an environment where the viewer is immersed in picto
rial spaces\, designed to envelop the viewer in a world of color and shape
.\n\nThis exhibition presents four of the large Primordial Soup canvases t
ogether with related drawings and smaller canvases that led to the larger
canvases. The primordial soup theory posits that\, through a process of tr
ansformation\, a mass of inchoate organic material evolved over centuries
into living organisms. As time progressed\, the building blocks of one for
m of life were themselves transformed into new forms\, such as the fins of
fish providing the genetic basis for the legs of amphibians.\n\nDavid Llo
yd Brown employs templates as if they were genetic building blocks\, creat
ing paintings using oil and acrylic\, and drawings with charcoal\, ink and
ebony pencils. These templates become compositional tools\, allowing him
to express the idea that continuous change is inevitable\, yet can coexist
with order. From a stock of approximately a dozen template shapes\, deriv
ed from diverse visual and cultural sources (including his earlier paintin
gs)\, he discovers new template shapes by combining parts of existing ones
\, using these hybrids to create new compositions.\n“I am inspired by im
ages\, symbols\, and patterns that appear to be long lasting\, almost time
less in many cultures. In William Morris designs\, the French Curve\, the
Boteh motif in Persian carpets\, the paisley in Scotland\, and in Mayan st
one carvings\, one sees a similar motif permeating those cultures and thei
r artwork. Making these paintings in our current climate of environmental
change has given me a sense of urgency and responsibility. We all share a
global ecosystem under threat everywhere. With every painting I finish\, I
sense the world that inspired it is slipping away. Will these paintings b
ecome an artifact of our time\, when we knew we were destroying the world
around us but could not stop our own destruction?”\nTo learn more about
